本展のための新作《森林詩》は、63本の自身のビデオ作品がランダムに繰り返される映像と、オンラインで開催される詩の朗読パフォーマンスを組み合わせた、3チャンネルのビデオ・インスタレーションです。詩の朗読に参加するのは、詩人、芸術家、哲学者などで、その様子は会期中の満月の日に上映されます。新型コロナウィルスが蔓延する現状の下で考案された本作は、キムの創造性と哲学的探求を反映しています。キムは、「森の中では、各構成要素の生は独自で異なっており互いに分離されていますが、同時に繋がり、全体を形成しています。したがって、1つは複数なのです。森が生き残るための条件は、各要素の協力関係に基づいており、悪天候やウィルスなどの予期せぬ出来事を自身の中に調和する能力が、生きることに欠くことのできない条件なのです」と説明します。

Forest Poems (2021), a large-scale three-channel video installation combined with a real-time online poetry reading performance that shows a looped sequence of sixty-three random video clips drawn from her recent video works. These poem-reciting performances will be broadcast online on the full moon day every month during the exhibition period with a group of participants consisting of poets, artists, and philosophers. The museum, whose name, Mori, literally means “forest,” will be transformed into a forest of poems. This work, conceived under the current conditions of COVID-19, is an apt reflection of Kim’s creativity and theoretical investigations. According to her, “In the forest, the life of each constituent is both unique and different, separated from one another and at the same time, connected, forming a Whole. Hence, the One is the Multiple. The condition for the survival of the forest is based on a state of collaboration between each member, and their ability to integrate within themselves unforeseen events, such as bad weather or viruses, is an essential condition for life.”

本作は、キムがピンホールカメラで撮った月の写真シリーズです。フォーカスなどを気にせずに、長時間露光で撮影され、偶然性を取り込んだ作品です。12枚ある写真は、それぞれ別の暦の月に撮られたもので、1年を通した月の写真となります。様々な場所を旅行しながら撮影されたこの写真には、月の軌道、地球の自転、キム自身の移動など、同じ時間の中に含まれる、様々な事象の混ざりあう偶然性が描かれているといえます。シンプルな表現の中に、万物の流転として世界を捉える道教の思想が表現されています。

This work is a series of photographs of the moon that Kim took with a pinhole camera. These photographs were taken with long exposures, without regard for focus or other factors, and entail a sense of chance or contingency. Each of the twelve photographs was taken in a different month, so the series covers the moon throughout an entire year. As these photos were taken while traveling to various locations, they depict the sense of contingency associated with various events intermingled with each other within the same time period, such as the orbit of the moon, the rotation of the earth, and Kim’s own movements. The simplicity with which these images are created expresses the Taoist concept of the world as a state of flux among all things.
