本作では、2本の鉄の棒が直立した鋼板に両側から寄りかかっています。1967年以降、デュジュリーは金属の板と棒を使用した作品を数多く制作してきました。鉄の棒と金属板は溶接されておらず、互いに支えあうことでバランスを保ち、そこで生まれる絶妙な均衡が、静謐な詩情を作り出します。

In this work, two iron rods lean against an upright steel plate on both sides. Since 1967, Dujourie has created many works using metal plates and rods. The iron rods and metal plates are not welded together: instead, they stay balanced by being supported by each other. The exquisite equilibrium created when the metal plate is placed upright gives a form of quiet poetry.

各24時間ある７つの映像で構成されたビデオ・インスタレーションです。タイトルはエミール・ヴェルハーレン（1855-1916年）の「海に向かって」という詩の一部からの引用です。それぞれの映像はひとつの曜日を映し出しており、展示会場の時刻に合わせて再生されるため、森美術館では通常開館時間の10時から22時までの1週間分の海辺の様子が映し出されています。
本作は、ベルギー、オーステンデにあるデュジュリーのアパートから撮影されました。映像は、一週間の波と潮の満ち引き、繰り返される光と闇を映します。止まっているようでいて動き続けている海の様子に含まれる、静と動、光と闇、などの相反する要素は、デュジュリーの作品によく用いられる重要なモチーフです。

Il fait dimanche sur la mer (Sunday at the Sea) is a video installation consisting of seven videos, each with a duration of 24 hours. The title is taken from a part of the poem Vers la mer (Towards the sea) by Emil Verhaeren (1855-1916). Each video is a projection of a single day of the week, played back according to the time of day at the exhibition site. Accordingly, a week’s worth of images of the seaside will be shown at Mori Art Museum from 10am to 10pm, during normal opening hours.
This work was shot from Dujourie’s apartment in Ostend, Belgium. The images show the ebb and flow of waves and tides over a week, and repeated cycles of light and darkness. The sea, which appears to be stationary but keeps moving continuously, embodies contradictory elements such as stillness and movement, and light and darkness, which are often deployed in Dujourie’s work.

本作は、時間が経つと固まる、やわらかい粘土で作られています。デュジュリーは、粘土の塊をこねて掴む手の動きをとどめた有機的な形を作りました。「手が触れたものはすべて、わたしたちの中に記憶として残る」という考えをもとに、心と手の両方に宿る思考や記憶に形を与えたものだといえます。

This work is made of soft clay that hardens over time. Here, Dujourie has created an organic form that captures the movement of a hand kneading and grasping a lump of clay. This work, based on the idea that “everything our hands touch remains in us as a memory,” gives form to the thoughts and memories that reside in both the mind and the hands.
