The Living Room

The Living Room - Share your memories of the history of town of Roppongi, Roppongi Hills and the Mori Art Museum!
The Living Room was first created in 2000 for the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. An art collector and patron, Mrs. Gardner built a museum at the beginning of the 20th century to make her own collection available to the general public, whom she wanted to enable to experience and enjoy art in a relaxing environment.
The Living Room at the Mori Art Museum is also envisaged as a place within the exhibition where the general public can relax and listen to memories and episodes relating to the history of the town of Roppongi, Roppongi Hills and the Mori Art Museum. We are calling for volunteers to act as living room hosts by bringing with them photographs and other items and sharing such memories and episodes with visitors.
Terms and Conditions
| 1. | No special skills or qualifications are required. As long as you enjoy talking with people, you are welcome to apply. |
| 2. | Please choose from among the following a time during the exhibition that is convenient: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., 2 - 6 p.m., 6 - 10 p.m. Preference will be given to applicants who can work regularly or multiple times. |
| 3. | We will pay you 1,500 yen a day (including transport expenses, etc.) |
| 4. | Depending on the hours and number of times you help out, you may also receive a copy of the exhibition catalogue, complimentary tickets, etc. |
| 5. | A briefing by the artist himself is planned for those who are selected as hosts. Successful applicants will be informed of details at a later date. |

Sonic Blossom: Call for Schubert's Lieders Singers
We are calling for performers to sing Schubert's Lieders through an audition!
The "Sonic Blossom" is a project Mingwei came up with while taking care of his sick mother. Inspired by the fact they both found solace in listening to Franz Schubert's Lieder, the project takes the form of "gift-giving" of the Lieder to members of the audience.
If you are interested in singing or studying music at college etc, why don't you join in this project?
Audition
Date & Time: Thursday, July 31, 2014, 13:00-16:00
* Audition will be held by the artist, Lee Mingwei.
Venue of audition: International House of Japan
Required Repertoire: "Nacht und Träume: Night and Dream," " Du bist die Ruh: You are Peace, the Mild Peace," "Auf dem Wasser zu singen: In the middle of the Shimmer of the Reflecting Waves," "Frühlingsglaube: Spring Faith," "An den Mond: To the Moon"
Number of performers wanted: 5 persons
Open to: Public, including amateurs such as students of college, university, and professional singers.
Performance period: September 19 and exhibition period of "Lee Mingwei and His Relations"
(September 20, 2014 - January 4, 2015)
* 3 hours a day, 10 days during the period.
We will pay you: 5,000 yen a day (including transport expenses, etc.)

Call for Participants in the Projects!

The exhibition includes projects other than the ones mentioned below that involve your participation in various forms. Please refer to the exhibitions website for details.
The nature of the participation will vary from project to project. Some works require participation only on the day during the exhibition, but we're also looking for people willing to participate more extensively by acting as hosts and welcoming visitors on behalf of the artist, for example.

Fabric of Memory

Fabric of Memory - Share your memories of handmade clothing or dolls!
Lee Mingwei's childhood memory of being too frightened to go to kindergarten alone and encouraged by the jacket his mother had made for him by hand was the inspiration behind Fabric of Memory. For this work, memorable items of handmade clothing, fabric dolls and so on belonging to participants will be carefully placed in wooden boxes along with texts recounting episodes associated with these items and put on display. By sharing these memories, visitors will be encouraged to think about the warmhearted connections among people.

| - | From among those who apply, 16 people will be selected by the artist to actually participate in the project. |
| - | At the end of the exhibition, the memorable items will be returned inside the special wooden boxes. |
To apply
| 1. | Send a photograph / photographs of the memorable handmade item of clothing, fabric doll, etc. and an account of the episode along with your name, email address, postal address and telephone number to leemingwei@mori.art.museum by Monday, June 30. Include in the subject line the words: "Application to participate in Fabric of Memory Project." |
| 2. | Please note that above item must fit in either of the following sizes of the wooden box: 55×42×18cm (large) of 42×32×16cm (small). |
| 3. | From among those who apply, 16 people will be selected by the artist to actually participate in the project. |
| 4. | Only those who are selected will be contacted by the Mori Art Museum. Those who are contacted will be asked to send the actual items mentioned in their applications to the address provided. |
| 5. | The items will be placed in boxes as specified by the artist by the Mori Art Museum and displayed for the duration of the exhibition. |
| 6. | At the end of the exhibition, the memorable items will be returned inside the special wooden boxes. |

The Mending Project - Help us mend things!
As part of The Mending Project, visitors will bring to the exhibition venue textile items that need mending. The artist or the host will mend the item while engaging in conversation with the stranger who brought it. The aim, however, is not to restore the item to its original condition, but to share as a "gift" the memories that come back in the course of this conversation.

| - | No special skills or qualifications in sewing are required. As long as you enjoy talking with people, you are welcome to apply. We greatly welcome applications from those who speak languages other than Japanese. |
