“Who was Louise Bourgeois?”: Unveiling Louise Bourgeois Exhibition #1
2024.12.6 [Fri]
Louise Bourgeois was born in Paris, France. Her parents ran a tapestry restoration business, and as a child she began helping her mother repair tapestries that were worn or damaged. Although Bourgeois originally studied mathematics, she decided to become an artist after her mother passed away. She eventually got married and moved to New York. She made art in many mediums, including paintings, drawings, and sculpture, and often worked wherever she could – even on the roof of her apartment building.
When she was 70 years old, a major exhibition helped to make her work more well-known, and many international shows followed. Bourgeois continued to create art until she passed away at the age of 98. She is now considered one of the most important artists of the past century.
The handy guide filled with useful easy-to-understand tips for viewing the Louise Bourgeois exhibition is available at the museum, and can be enjoyed by both children and adults.
