Indie games, also part of MACHINE LOVE exhibition, are games developed by individuals or small teams, and are attracting attention worldwide due to their unique ideas and free expression.
This special 1-day program is presented in collaboration with NHK Group’s Kami-game Creators’ Evolution, a project aimed at discovering and nurturing amateur game creators. Participants will be able to play a selection of games including Grand Prix winners and finalists at Kami-game Creators’ Evolution, as well as enjoy the talk program. Welcoming Kumagai Mie, who served as a judge for Kami-game Creators’ Evolution, and Taniguchi Akihiko, who also served as a judge and is an advisor for the MACHINE LOVE exhibition, the program will cover a broad spectrum from the history of video game development to the emergence of indie games adding an overview of recent trends in the game industry, while also looking at the future possibilities of game utilization and the relationship with art.

- Kami-game Creators’ Evolution
- Kami-game Creators’ Evolution is a project to discover and nurture a new generation of game creators. In 2025, it will start the 4th annual GAME PRIZE OF JAPAN contest, the evolution of the Amateur Division and U18 Division of the Japan Game Awards. As always, the theme is innovation, with a wide variety of works being submitted by participants from various backgrounds and levels of experience, from elementary school students to working adults. Participants will compete for about 8 months as they continuously refine their submissions, and the entire program will be broadcast on NHK.
