Urgent Talk 016: Haroon Mirza - Daiwa Foundation Art Prize 2012
Winner's Talk "Visualizing Acoustic Space"
Japanese-English Consecutive Interpretation Available
Haroon Mirza (b.1977, London) was awarded the Northern Art Prize in 2010 and held a solo exhibition at Lisson Gallery in 2011. His work attempts to isolate the perceptual distinctions between noise, sound and music and explore the possibility of the visual and acoustic as one singular aesthetic form. These ideas are examined through lo-fi yet complex assemblages and installations that employ furniture, household electronics, video and existing artworks to formulate temporally based audio compositions. Through his recent recognitions including Silver Lion Prize at 54th Venice Biennale (2011), solo project at New York's New Museum, participation in the 9th Gwangju Biennale (2012), he has been one of the most notable young artists today.
For "Urgent Talk 016," along with Mirza's artist talk, Jonathan Watkins, Director of Ikon Gallery in Birmingham will also give a concise but inspirational talk on British contemporary art now.
