Theaster Gates Exhibition Audio Commentary produced by Youth Ambassadors
* In Japanese
Participants of the exhibition-related learning program “Art Camp for under 22, Vol. 13 Theaster Gates Exhibition Youth Ambassadors,” created audio commentary and descriptions of the works!
Four groups of youths (aged 12-22) viewed the works of art through a series of four activities, working with museum staff to learned about the historical, social, and cultural contexts behind them, and then together with the museum staff worked on producing audio commentary and descriptions of works. Enjoy listening to commentary created from a wealth of ideas not bound by preconceived notions, commentary that asks questions of the audience, and interactive commentary that makes you feel as though you were viewing the works with friends.

Performances @ the Exhibition
The work A Heavenly Chord (2022) presented at this exhibition is an installation composed of a Hammond B-3 organ and seven Leslie speakers. Invented in Chicago in the 1930s, the Hammond B-3 was widely adopted by churches in Black neighborhoods, in combination with Leslie speakers, as a more accessible alternative to the pipe organ. Every Sunday during the exhibition, an organist will play the organ in this work for the public. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the sonic explorations of Gates’ practice and the forms of his musical origins.
