Patricia Piccinini The Rookie
2015
This highly realistic sculpture has elements of both an adorable baby and a caterpillar. In her work, Piccinini has used computer graphics and sculpture to represent a wide variety of intriguing genetically engineered beings. It is still a mystery to us what kind of life exists out in space, or how this will evolve as time goes on, but in the not so distant future, we may find ourselves genetically modifying our bodies in order to better suit us for life in space. Through her work, Piccinini deals with life science propositions such as this in a symbolic way.
