What is the thought of Metabolism?

The Final session, File-04 New renderings of the Metabolism movement's visions of future cities
Plans based on Metabolist thinking, such as the plan for a marine city spanning Tokyo Bay in A Plan for Tokyo--1960 and Master Plan for Expo '70 were ideas for sustainable cities that took into account Tokyo population growth and how the Expo site would be used after the Expo finished. In the 1960s, drawings and models were the only means of expression available for these conceptual plans. For this exhibition, we have produced new renderings of six of the city plans using computer graphics. The resulting townscapes are stunningly realistic, and provide a new opportunity to experience the transformations of Metabolism cities in line with changes to the environment.
