What is Deep learning? : Glossary to better enjoy MACHINE LOVE #2

2025.4.1 [Tue]

This glossary introduces some technical terms that will enhance your experience of the MACHINE LOVE exhibition. Selected terms describe the technologies and ideas used or explored by the participating artists.

The glossary was created by the Mori Art Museum by editing short definitions generated by ChatGPT. It is meant to enrich the understanding of the exhibition, therefore, each description should not be considered universally applicable.

Machine learning / Deep learning
Technologies in which a machine analyzes a large amount of data to find relationships and patterns among them. While machine learning analyzes features of data according to human instructions, deep learning allows machines to automatically learn the unique features of the data itself. Deep learning can read and recognize features and patterns of a certain data set that humans cannot grasp.

Worldbuilding
The act of creating the world in which a story or game takes place. By drawing maps, creating cities, villages, and ecosystems, and defining the customs, culture, and history of the people, one can create a world that does not exist in reality, but which is engaging and realistic. This gives depth and coherence to the work.
