Urgent Talk 005:
Activities of Le Consortium
Japanese-English simultaneous interpretation available
Le Consortium, a contemporary art center based in Dijon, France was founded in 1977. Generally, an art center is a place to show artworks to the public. However, Le Consortium has aimed to build the conditions and situations to let the art “happen”: production for specific place and time, since its beginning. Major solo exhibitions organized at Le Consortium include Kawara On (1990), Frank Stella (1995), Sarah Morris (1998), Kusama Yayoi (2001), and Angela Bulloch (2005).
The activities and support Le Consortium provides is wide ranged and include Anna Sanders Films, a movie production company created in 1996 for the production and development of artist films and les presses du réel, a publisher established in 1992.
Le Consortium as a trade mark, or as a collective of individuals has also curated shows outside Dijon, including the last “Le Consortium.coll” at the Centre Pompidou, Paris (1998), “Pierre Huyghe” at The French Pavilion at the 49th Venice Biennale (2001), the 7th Lyon Biennale (2003), and “Flower Power,” a large international exhibition for Lille 2004, Cultural Capital of Europe.
On this occasion, Co-Director and International Project Director of Le Consortium will make a presentation on their various activities over the last 30 years.
