MAM Research 008: Suddenly Turning Visible - Art and Architecture in Southeast Asia (1969-1989)

2022.2.18 [Fri] - 5.29 [Sun]

Documentation

Focusing on three cultural institutions that existed in Bangkok, Singapore, and Manila from the late 1960s to the late 1980s, this exhibition attempts to clarify the roles and connections between architecture, art, and cultural facilities in Southeast Asia.

In this collection of records, the social and political background of the three cities that achieved economic development under conditions different from those of Japan, as well as the individual circumstances of each institution’s location, are recorded in chronological form, showing the history of each exhibition. It also includes articles by curators from the National Gallery Singapore and recordings of talks given at the Mori Art Museum.
