Ecology: Dialogue on Circulations by Fondation d’entreprise Hermès

For Our Ecology exhibition, we have interpreted the Mori Art Museum as a whole ecology/ecosystem of its own, and entered into a dialogue with the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès with the intention of stepping beyond Mori Art Museum to build an organic, symbiotic relationship with another institution. The result is an exhibition that connects with the two locations of the Mori Art Museum and Ginza Maison Hermès Le Forum, and the city stretching out between them, and serves to expand our contemplations of ecology.
The Ginza Maison Hermès Le Forum will stage the exhibition Ecology: Dialogue on Circulations.
By presenting work at both exhibitions, artists Yasura Takeshi and Kate Newby will also act as links between the two ecologies.

Saijo Akane Performance Phantom Body

Saijo Akane will hold a performance using her works that are being shown at this exhibition. The ceramic works Orchard (2022), Wetland (2022), and Young Mountain (2023) are structured in such a way that they can be played by breathing into them. Multiple performers play a single work simultaneously, and the way they are connected through the abstract sculpture makes it seem as if they share a single organ. We hope you will come and experience this form of gentle communication between people and between people and things, as well as the heavy bass sound that resonates from these works.

Yasura Takeshi Performance Art Appreciation

Yasura Takeshi, an artist featured in Our Ecology, will hold a performance with two clown performers in the exhibition galleries.
In medieval society, where the class system was strict, people with congenital physical disabilities often performed as clowns, and while they may have been treated as fools, they were the only members of society allowed to behave freely. The clowns who view this exhibition freely and humorously deconstruct “art appreciation” itself, freeing the roles of exhibition and viewer in that act. Appearing in the stereotypical viewing space of the museum, the clowns encourage free dialogue about the uncertain future posed by the Our Ecology exhibition.
